Captain Rick

Rick Jarchow, Jr. grew up sailing with his parents in South Florida and in the youth sailing program of Lauderdale Yacht Club. Rick graduated from Florida Atlantic University, with dual majors in Political Science and Accounting. Rick started a career in the Accounting field while always looking for the next opportunity to sail. Rick lives in South Florida where sailing and yacht racing grew into a passion at a young age cruising with his parents and racing with his Dad on Phrf boats. Rick started out as a bowman at the age of 19 after years of sailing Lasers and optis and crewing on boats with his Dad, and since 1998 has focused on his roles as tactician, navigator, strategist, helmsman and campaign manager. He bought his first boat a Soverel 26 at the age of 21and campaigned it until he found his passion in J/24s.

Rick is a Coast Guard endorsed 100 ton Master Captain with Sail and Tow endorsements since the early 2000s.

Rick’s racing record includes victories in many premier events in the East Coast, with Key West Race Week, and Charleston Race Week as highlights. Rick sails and races on boats from 20’ to 130′ with a ‘wheelhouse’ of boats ranging from 35-70′.

His one design keelboat experience includes the J/70, J/24, J/22, J/105, Melges 24, Melges 32, Etchells, Beneteau 36.7, and S2 7.9.

His PHRF/ORC boat experience includes the above one designs, and the following Soverel 26, Soverel 33, Tripp 33, Tripp 38, Tripp 40, C&C 39, C&C 37R, Lindenberg 28, Wavelength 30, Tartan 10 and many other racers and cruisers.

Rick is highly experienced in both organizing crew and managing campaigns.

Rick volunteers his time as District Governor for the J/24 Class in Florida, has been a member of the PHRF Board in South East Florida, race chair for multiple clubs, Fleet Captain for the Miami J/24 Fleet 10 along with being a class measurer.  Rick is also very keen on mentoring young sailors and new owners in the J/24 Fleet.  Lastly Rick feels it is very important to give back to a sport that has given him so much that he regularly volunteers for the race committee for youth regattas.

Island Spirit 525 E

The Island Spirit Catamaran Brand, three-time winner of the Top Ten Sail Magazine awards, is widely recognized for its spacious design and superior sailing performance. Originally manufactured and introduced in the United States in 1998, production was moved to Thailand in 2012 to provide competitive pricing while maintaining the highest build quality. Each Island Spirit Catamaran must complete a rigorous safety and quality inspection as well as a sea trial to ensure international CE standards are met. Island Spirit Catamarans can be customized to every customer’s specific needs in terms of equipment level and layout. Island Spirit Catamarans is now focusing on green energy boats and has launched the IS525 with an electric drive option! The launch is scheduled for the 2023 Annapolis sailboat show, though we are accepting pre-orders now – and because the manufacturing capacity is limited in the first year, only a few production slot remain available.

Kraken 50

Kraken Yachts was founded with one objective, to build the best blue water yachts ever launched. At Kraken Yachts, we believe there is no such thing as a yacht for all purposes and first the designer and builder must decide what the purpose of the yacht is. Similarly, an owner must also decide what the prime purpose of the vessel they are purchasing is. If that purpose is to go blue water cruising around the world, you are in the right place, we build nothing else. Many of the principles of design and construction of a Kraken yacht are derived from the vessels that have sailed our seas for time immemorial. We compromise nothing to fad or fashion and while the stylish look of a Kraken yacht turns heads in marinas or anchorages throughout the world, our up to the minute interior designs are contemporary. Safety and comfort are our driving factors. Our owners discover that the tracking and motion of a Kraken yacht are unparalleled, and their ability to look after the crew when the going gets rough stands unmatched in modern yacht building. The fine entry of the bow stem combined with the V shape of the forefoot of the hull eliminates slamming, even when going hard to wind in big headseas. We go sailboat cruising for fun and enjoyment and in a Kraken yacht, it’s all about the voyage, not just the destination.
